Many years ago in chiropractic college, I encountered some information about cosmetics and anti -perspirants contributing to breast cancer. At the time the research was sketchy. Recently in the Journal of Applied Toxicology an editorial studied where breast cancer tumors were appearing. The research determines that higher concentrations of parabens were found in the areas where anti-perspirants are usually applied.

Parabens are chemicals that act as preservatives in anti-perspirants and cosmetics, even suntan lotions. Another component of anti –perspirants, aluminum chloride, has been found to act similarly. The researchers stated that the study shows “signals of concern that such compounds are not as safe as previously considered.” The data also points to seeking a more external examination of parabens in personal care products. Now here’s a kicker…. 97% of breast cancer tissue samples contain parabens! It is suspected that parabens can bioaccumulate in breast tissue from the use of cosmetics and personal care products, as well as drugs.

I recommend the general public to use all natural personal care products from health food stores or made at home from natural ingredients. Not only do we need to clean green in our homes but also “go green” in our human homes– our bodies!
